Open letter to leader and ministries involving in prevention of violence against women and children

Phnom Penh 15 July 2015: We all are members of the Gender and Development Network(GADNet), Committee to Promote Women in Politics (CPWP), Cambodian Men’s Network (CMN), JASS Southeast Asian (JASS SEA) in Cambodia, One Billion Rising (ORB) Cambodia and Cambodian Young Women’s Empowerment Network (CYWEN) as well as other youth groups working to promote women’s rights in Cambodia.

We wholeheartedly commend and support Samdech Kralahaom SAR KHENG for his remarks made on July 14, 2015, ordering all competent authorities to hunt and arrest Oknha Sok Bun, who committed violence against a former CTN presenter, Miss Ek Socheata, aka SASA, and warning any relevant officials, who try to block this case. At the same time, we tremendously support the firm position of the leaders of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs in pushing for punishment of the above-named perpetrator according to the law in force.

We all are strongly hopeful and convinced of the actions of Samdech Kralahaom Sar Kheng and the position of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs seeking to hunt and arrest Oknha Sok Bun and his personal bodyguards and bring them to justice according to the law in order to find justice for the victim and set an example for those who use violence against women, including those individuals who, relying on their powers and money, abuse and violate the rights of other people, particularly women and children.

Furthermore, we are enormously confident that Samdech Kralahaom Sar Kheng and relevant institutions will take legal actions on any case of violence against women and children to show a strong will with high attention that can contribute for reducing and stopping all forms of violence against women and children more effectively in Cambodia.

Finally, we all would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to Samdech Kralahaom Sar Kheng and leaders of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs for their attention and taking actions on the above-mentioned case of violence.

Please kindly accept, Samdech Kralahaom Sar Kheng and leaders of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the renewed assurance of our highest respects.
